Job description
We are currently working in partnership with a social housing provider based in the East Midlands, who are recruiting for a Repairs Manager on a 6-to-12-month temporary contract. The position is due to start immediately and offers a day rate of circa £350, negotiable dependant on experience, paid on an umbrella basis.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing repairs and maintenance services within a housing or property environment, with strong leadership skills and the ability to oversee performance and budgets. They will be comfortable being present within the depots to support and guide supervisors and support operational teams, with a strong focus on health and safety and customer-focused delivery.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Managing and directing resources across responsive repairs, planned works, voids, maintenance, and out-of-hours services to deliver an efficient, effective, and value-for-money service
- Leading Responsive, Planned and Voids Team Leaders and work planners, supporting people management matters and ensuring teams are performing effectively and delivering high-quality services
- Overseeing the performance of a Direct Labour Organisation (DLO), including gas engineers, electricians, and other operatives, ensuring productivity, compliance, and quality standards are consistently met
- Monitoring operational and financial performance, managing budgets, programme delivery, quality control, and customer experience while driving continuous service improvement
- Leading on health and safety across repairs and ground maintenance services, ensuring managers, operatives, and partners understand and fulfil their responsibilities and that safe systems of work are maintained
- Working closely with Customer Services, Procurement, and external partners to coordinate repairs delivery, ensure materials and services are appropriately specified and procured, and maintain strong contract performance
- Embedding a customer-focused approach to repairs delivery, reviewing working practices and systems, and implementing improvements to ensure work is completed on time, within budget, and to agreed quality standards
Experience required:
- Experience delivering responsive repairs, planned maintenance, and void property programmes within a housing or property environment
- Proven leadership of operational teams, including supervisors, planners, and trade operatives
- Experience managing Direct Labour Organisations (DLO) and/or contractor performance to meet productivity and quality standards
- Ability to monitor budgets, operational performance, and service delivery to ensure value for money
- Strong understanding of health and safety requirements and risk management within maintenance or construction services.
Working hours:
- 37 hours per week, Mon - Fri
