Job description

We are currently working in partnership with a local council based in Surrey, who are recruiting for a Private Sector Housing Officer on a temporary 4 month contract. The position is due to start on the 19th January, and is offering 2 days working from home. The hourly rate of pay is £37 via an Umbrella company.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in Private Sector Housing at a local council and will have access to their own vehicle.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Inspecting and assessing housing to ensure compliance with legislation, including Homes for Ukraine properties, HMOs, and caravan sites
  • Managing and enforcing housing standards, investigating service requests and taking enforcement action where necessary
  • Overseeing HMO licensing, from application triage and inspections through to issuing licences
  • Safeguarding residents and assessing welfare needs, carrying out risk assessments, home visits, and taking appropriate safeguarding action
  • Supporting effective service delivery, maintaining accurate records and preparing legal files

Experience required:

  • Experience required in Private Sector Housing
  • Experience working for a local authority

  • Communication, negotiation, and engagement skills
  • Professional judgement and case management
  • Collaborative and adaptable working
