Job description

We are currently partnering with a Housing Association in the West Midlands, who are recruiting for an Income Officer to join their growing team on a temporary or permanent basis.

This is a full-time position with a salary band of £30,503 to £32,937 (subject to experience) and the start date is subject to notice.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Regularly monitoring rent accounts, providing a customer-focused service, ensuring customers understand their responsibility to pay rent on time

  • Carrying out home visits or virtual face to face contact in connection with income recovery or arrears prevention

  • Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of housing and welfare benefits and provide information and signpost tenants to relevant agencies

  • Liaising with Housing Benefit departments and the Department of Work and Pensions to encourage prompt and accurate payment of claims, and speedy resolution of problems

  • Preparing cases for court and represent the organisation in possession cases as necessary

  • Investigating and pass for payment Housing Benefit overpayment requests

Experience required:

  • Proven experience working in income recovery, within social housing

  • Experience liaising with Housing Benefit and the Department for Work and Pension

  • Experience conducting home visits or virtual tenant contact

  • Proven track record of maximising rental income and reducing arrears through proactive account management

  • Experience working closely with Housing Benefit teams, DWP, and external agencies to ensure accurate and timely payments

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong knowledge of income recovery and rent account management within a social housing environment

  • Excellent arrears management and negotiation skills

  • Ability to manage a busy caseload, and prioritise effectively
