Exciting Opportunity: Education – Financial Controller

Our client, a well know educational body based in East London has recently gone through a restructure after a period of change and is actively recruiting for a Financial Controller on a permanent contract

The position is due to start subject to notice on a full-time basis, Monday to Friday. They are offering up £67,180 - £72,180 per annum.

Please note the successful candidate will be ACCA/ ACA/ CIMA/ CIPFA qualified or any relevant accounting qualification. The organisation has stressed that they need a good financial controller who drives forward the reconciliations and produces.

Duties will include – but are not limited to:

  • Line manage and develop three direct reports
  • Lead the month-end close process, including reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and journals
  • Oversee the production of accurate and timely management accounts
  • Lead the preparation of year-end statutory accounts in accordance with FE/HE SORP and UK GAAP
  • Manage the external audit process and liaise with auditors and stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with DfE/GLA financial returns and grant conditions
  • Oversee the maintenance and development of the organisations finance systems
  • Lead finance system upgrades, integrations, and automation initiatives
  • Champion continuous improvement across finance processes and controls
  • Provide training and support to finance and non-finance users
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and investment activity
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting and capital project reporting
  • Ensure accurate grant accounting and timely submission of grant returns
  • Maintain insurance schedules and manage renewals and claims

Experience required:

  • Qualified accountant – Essential
  • Previous experience managing staff - Essential
  • Experience working within the Education sector - Desirable
  • Proven track record of leading month-end and year-end processes
  • Experience managing finance systems and driving process improvements
  • Strong understanding of VAT, statutory reporting, and treasury management
  • Experience in managing and developing finance teams
  • Understanding of DfE/GLA funding rules and regulatory framework

Working hours:

  • 35 hours per week
  • Monday – Friday: (9:00am – 5:30pm)
  • Hybrid working – 2 days on site per week
  • Please note as this is a senior level role, for the first few weeks you may be required to be on site more initially while getting to grips with the role, meeting the team, budget holders etc
