Job description

We are currently partnering with a leading educational body based in Birmingham, who are recruiting for a Senior Finance Officer (Management Accountant) to join their team on a permanent basis.

This is a full-time position with a salary band of £38,000 to £44,000 per annum (subject to experience) and is due to start as soon as possible, subject to notice period.

This role will operate on a hybrid basis, with three days per week based on-site in the office and two days working from home.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Advising budget holders and senior managers on financial management, forecasts and variances

  • Identifying and implementing process improvements for efficiency and transparency

  • Leading audits, maintaining financial integrity, and ensuring compliance with regulations

  • Providing finance and accounancy support for departments and projects

  • Supporting payroll processes, statutory returns, and project costing

  • Producing accurate, timely manegement information and financial reports

  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on funding, reporting, and compliance

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Experience providing finance support to senior managers

  • Part-qualified accountant (CCAB recognised) or equivalent experience

  • Strong Excel and IT skills; experience with financial systems

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines with accuracy

  • Higher education finance experience and knowledge of external grant funding processes is desirable

Working hours:

  • 37 hours per week

  • Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm
