Job description
We are currently working in partnership with a Local Authority based in West Sussex, who are recruiting for a Building Surveyor - Fire on a temporary six-month contract. The position is due to start immediately, with the potential to go full time. The daily rate of pay is negotiable up to £300 via an Umbrella company.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building safety, fire safety compliance, or large‑scale property programmes.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Develop programmes to clear all outstanding FRA actions
- Manage and monitor contractors delivering fire safety remedial works
- Carry out QA inspections / Site Quality Assurance reviews to verify workmanship, challenge issues, and provide compliance sign off.
- Review contractor evidence including photos, surveys, and quotations to verify accuracy before closing actions.
- Issue and manage orders, variations, scopes, and progress tracking.
- Monitor systemised FRA actions and update records accurately using compliance databases.
- Close down actions and remedial jobs on the system once validated.
- Coordinate in house management actions (PEEPs, rubbish clearance, PAT testing etc.).
- Provide regular reporting, dashboards, and evidence logs for audits and regulatory assurance.
Experience required:
- Strong background in building safety, fire safety compliance, or large‑scale property programmes
- Experience in Quality Assurance, Site Inspection, Technical Quality Review, or a similar modern equivalent to clerk‑of‑works
- Proven track record of delivering large programmes of compliance or safety‑related works
Skills, knowledge and expertise required:
- Excellent systems and data management capability, confident with databases and MS Office, particularly Excel
- Ability to review technical evidence (photos, surveys, quotes) and make informed recommendations
- Excellent stakeholder coordination and communication skills
- Ability to work independently, at pace, and manage multiple sites simultaneously
