Job description

We are currently working in partnership with a Local Authority based in the East Midlands, who are recruiting for a Housing Support Officer on a temporary 2 month contract. The position is due to start immediately. The hourly rate of pay is negotiable up to £17.00 via an Umbrella Company.

The ideal candidate will have an Enhanced DBS dated within the last 3 years, access to their own vehicle, and have proven experience of Housing Support Officer duties.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Carrying out visits to hospitals and homes, dealing with a caseload of around 10-15 people threatened with homelessness being discharged from hospital

  • Dealing with tenancy agreements including signing up new tenants and ensuring tenancy agreements are adhered to

  • Make assessments of properties to ensure they are cleaned and cleared, ready for people being discharged from hospital to return to

  • Responsible for assisting tenants with budgeting and managements of rent arrears

  • Accountable for undertaking risk assessments and support plans

  • Supporting clients with the application process for new housing

  • Providing basic housing advice on rents, benefits, maintaining tenancies and signposting clients to relevant support organisations

Experience required:

  • Knowledge of relevant welfare benefits to maximise service user’ income

  • Experience of assessments, support planning, creating actions plans and reporting outcomes

  • Previous experience working within a support setting dealing with vulnerable people with a range of support needs

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Ability to prioritise work and manage a personal caseload and meet deadlines

  • Able to communicate clearly and demonstrate good negotiation and problem-solving skills

Working hours:

  • 37 hours per week

  • Monday – Friday, 8am-4pm / 9am-5pm
