Job description

We are currently partnering with a Borough Council in the North West of England, who are recruiting for a locum Group Solicitor to oversee the Licensing & Environmental team, for a 12-month period.

The team are looking to appoint to the post immediately on a full-time basis for 35-hours a week, and the hourly rate is negotiable subject to PQE

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing high level legal support to the Council in respects of Environmental and Licensing matters of varying complexity, and undertaking general prosecutions

  • Acting on licensing matters involving the Gambling Act 2005, Taxi & Private Hire, street trading, hawking, street and house to house collections, scrap metal, hypnotism and sex establishments

  • Handling regulatory committee matters, development control committee matters, port health authority matters, gateway environmental trust matters and general prosecutions

  • Advising on public health issues including environmental health, statutory nuisance, animal welfare, health & safety, and trading standards

  • Handling community and environmental community safety matters, including library services, sport and recreation, stadium and catering services, open space services, bereavement services, registration services, waste and environmental services, waste collection, waste disposal, fly-tipping and litter

  • Managing a small Group comprising a Solicitor and Licensing team of four staff
