Job description

We are currently working in partnership with a Local Authority based in the Midlands, who are looking to appoint a DFG Grants Officer/Case Worker on a six month temporary contract.

This will be a full time position with both flexible and hybrid working and an hourly rate of £25.00 per hour. The position is due to start in February, dependent upon notice periods.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the Grants Construction Act and of held a position within a similar role at a Local Authority.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Dealing with low level adaptations such as staircases, liaising with one contractor for all adaptations

  • Providing advice and casework support to elderly, vulnerable and disabled clients of the Adaptations Service who wish to undertake adaptations to their homes

  • Verifying applications – for accuracy of information, compliance with the Housing Assistance and Council Housing Adaptations Policies and DFG legislation and procedures

  • Responsible for arranging non-complex and non-technical adaptations for passported clients accessing disabled facilities grants or HRA funded adaptations (e.g. stairlifts)

  • Acting as the main point of contact between clients, contractors and professionals for each case and ensure that the client understands and is kept informed of all the procedures and practices involved in their particular circumstances

  • Carrying out the statutory means test of applicants for disabled facilities grants, using appropriate software (including MS Excel and Outlook as well as Ferret Renovator)

  • Conducting home visits to clients to identify their housing needs, to maintain regular and appropriate contact with clients during the delivery of an adaptation and to record the case outcomes and client’s satisfaction on conclusion

  • Working in consultation with occupational therapists and technical officers, identify the most effective specification for each project having regard to the clients’ needs and cost

Experience required:

  • Knowledge of the Grants Construction Act

  • Previous experience dealing with disabled facilities grants

  • Experience of dealing with the procurement side would be desirable

  • Knowledge of DFG’s within Council owned properties as well as private housing

Working hours:

  • 37 hours per week

  • Monday – Friday

  • 50/50 office and home split (site visits required)
