Job description

We are currently working in partnership with a Housing Association based in Buckinghamshire, who are recruiting for a Gas Engineer on a temporary six-month contract, a van is provided for the role. The hourly rate of pay is negotiable dependent upon experience.

The ideal candidate will have experience providing responsive and professional gas service to residents in their homes ensuring internal and external work sites are adequately protected, respecting resident privacy and property at all times.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide a responsive and professional gas trade service to residents in their homes

  • Carry out annual Landlord Safety Inspections ensuring all documentation is completed complying with Core Gas Procedures and Gas Safety regulations

  • Service, install and repair all types of domestic and commercial gas heating equipment, operate and manage gas work tasks and diagnose and rectify faults on all types of domestic and commercial gas heating systems and controls in order to deliver a ‘right first time’ service to residents

  • Carry out a range of plumbing repairs and installations in occupied and empty properties ranging from changing a tap to replacing a bath, changing a gate valve to replacing a hot water cylinder, changing a ball valve to replacing a cold water storage tank, and working on sanitary systems/rainwater systems and heating systems

  • Carry out all necessary administrative work associated with departmental management requirements such as using the PDA’s to accurately and timely record all processes from receiving jobs through to completion

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Hold City & Guilds Part III /NVQ level 3 in Mechanical

  • Domestic - ACS CCN1, ACS CEN1, ACS HTR1, ACS WAT1, ACS CKR1, ACS CPA1, CENWAT

  • Gas Safe Registered

  • Hold a valid Driving Licence

  • Be able to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines

  • Proven experience of using both documentation and IT systems for reporting and maintaining records

  • The ability to work to strict deadlines

  • Be capable of working efficiently, effectively, diligently and courteously without the need for constant supervision repair tasks to domestic properties

  • Have the ability to plan and organize repairs and maintenance works /projects

  • Hold an excellent awareness of current Health and Safety regulations backed up by evidence of relevant training, and the ability to work in a safe manner

  • Have good verbal and written skills including having the ability to liaise with our customers

  • Substantial post qualification experience in Repair, Maintenance and installation of mechanical works both in occupied and unoccupied properties including inspections, defects analysis and specifying repairs

  • Good level of physical fitness, including the ability to lift, work at heights and in differing conditions

  • Be able to work as part of a team

  • Have previous Public Sector/ Social Housing repairs experience

Working hours:

  • 38 hours per week

  • Monday to Friday
