We are currently working in partnership with a Local Council based in North London, who are recruiting for an Employment Lawyer on a temporary 3-month contract. The position is due to start immediately, with the potential to extend. This is a full time position and the hourly rate of pay is negotiable dependent upon experience.

The ideal candidate will have experience of Employment Law, preferably in a local government context and have experience of managing a wide and varied workload of contentious and non-contentious employment law related matters with minimal supervision.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

• Representing the Council in preliminary hearings in the Employment Tribunals and instructing

• Advising Elected Members where appropriate and attending Executive, Committees and Sub-Committees and providing legal comments on reports as required

• Giving legal advice to colleagues within the Council and its Partners on the law and practice to enable the Council to discharge its functions legally and effectively

• Contributing to the development of the Legal Service through identifying opportunities for improvement and supporting, motivating and coaching colleagues within the Legal Service

• Delivering excellent specialist advice in a clear and concise way to a variety of stakeholders and clients

• Building and maintaining credible professional relationships with Council colleagues and external Partners and stakeholders

Experience required:

• Experience required in Employment Law

• Experience working with in a Local Government Context

• Experience of providing advocacy in Employment Tribunals

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

• Qualified Solicitor with at least 2 years’ PQE
