Job description
We are currently working in partnership with a Local Council based in North London, who are recruiting for an Employment Lawyer on a temporary 3-month contract. The position is due to start immediately, with the potential to extend. This is a full time position and the hourly rate of pay is negotiable dependent upon experience.
The ideal candidate will have experience of Employment Law, preferably in a local government context and have experience of managing a wide and varied workload of contentious and non-contentious employment law related matters with minimal supervision.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
Representing the Council in preliminary hearings in the Employment Tribunals and instructing
Advising Elected Members where appropriate and attending Executive, Committees and Sub-Committees and providing legal comments on reports as required
Giving legal advice to colleagues within the Council and its Partners on the law and practice to enable the Council to discharge its functions legally and effectively
Contributing to the development of the Legal Service through identifying opportunities for improvement and supporting, motivating and coaching colleagues within the Legal Service
Delivering excellent specialist advice in a clear and concise way to a variety of stakeholders and clients
Building and maintaining credible professional relationships with Council colleagues and external Partners and stakeholders
Experience required:
Experience required in Employment Law
Experience working with in a Local Government Context
Experience of providing advocacy in Employment Tribunals
Skills, knowledge and expertise required:
Qualified Solicitor with at least 2 years’ PQE
