Job description
We are proud to be partnering with an social housing provider who has served the communities in Hertfordshire for 135 years who are looking to appoint a Assistant Director of Place & Environment on permanent basis.
This will be a full-time position based in Hertfordshire, with of between £67,000 to £70,000 per annum.
This is a senior leadership role overseeing a large property portfolio, with a strong focus on reactive repairs, pre-planned maintenance, and health and fire safety compliance. The successful candidate will also play a key role in guiding the organisation through the regulatory changes associated with managing over 1,000 homes.
Due to the nature of the role, it is essential that candidates have experience at Assistant Director, Director, or Head of level within a social housing context, and have managed a property portfolio of 1,000+ homes (or equivalent), with a strong understanding of the regulatory framework.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Providing strategic leadership for the Place & Environment function, ensuring compliance, safety, and operational excellence across all assets
- Overseeing reactive repairs and pre-planned maintenance programmes, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and high-quality service delivery
- Leading on housing, health & safety, and fire safety compliance in line with regulatory standards
- Managing a multidisciplinary property team, building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, residents, and regulators
- Driving the transition through the regulatory impact of managing over 1,000 properties
Experience required:
- Proven senior leadership experience (Assistant Director, Director, or equivalent) within a social housing context
- Experience managing a property portfolio of 1,000+ homes or equivalent, with a strong understanding of the associated regulatory framework
- Track record in delivering high-performing reactive repairs, health & safety, fire safety, and planned maintenance services
- Strong knowledge of housing regulations, compliance standards, and safety legislation
- Ability to build and lead high-performing teams, and to influence at a senior level internally and externally
Skills, knowledge and expertise required:
- Professional qualifications (e.g. RICS, CIOB, IOSH) or equivalent experience
