Job description

Our client, based in Birmingham, is currently recruiting for a Support Worker on a permanent, full-time basis with an annual salary of £24,942.06.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness and be content with lone working and dealing with challenging behaviours. You will also be required to have an Enhanced DBS.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing high-quality one to one support through regular key-work sessions with tenants, helping individuals overcome barriers and gain independence

  • Forming relevant support plans through consulting the tenant and (where appropriate) external social workers

  • Interviewing potential tenants and assessing their suitability to be accepted into the scheme

  • Carrying out appropriate viewings once an offer has been made to an applicant(s)

  • Informing residents on appropriate well-being services and signposting when necessary to health and welfare benefits

  • Working with customers who have complex needs and are homeless or facing homelessness

  • Ensuring tenants understand their license, rights, obligations and tenancy agreements and report any breaches to the team leader

  • Keeping voids to a minimum, ensuring applicants are sourced and move in to clean properties

  • Monitoring non-payment of rent and taking action in line with agreed policy and procedure on arrears

Experience required:

  • Experience working with socially disadvantaged people in a supported environment

  • Writing reports and completing statistic reports

  • Working in a supported housing environment or residential setting

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • A strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation

  • Understanding of welfare benefits and specifically housing benefits

  • Knowledge of the external organisations that are affiliated with supported housing

  • The ability to listen and communicate effectively with customers and colleagues

Working hours:

  • 37.00 hours per week

  • Monday – Friday, 8.00am – 4.00pm or 12.00pm – 8.00pm on a rota basis

  • Occasionally - one weekend a month
