We’re delighted to be partnering with a leading Higher Education provider, who are currently recruiting for a Research Finance Manager on a permanent basis.

What's on offer:

The role is 37 hours per week with hybrid working. The salary for this role is between £44,263 to £46,974 with potential to progress to £56,021 per annum.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified Accountant and have experience line managing staff.

Duties will include (but not limited to):

  • To be responsible for the line management of two research accountants, carrying out appraisals, training and monthly performance reviews

  • Provide comprehensive research project financial management services for a portfolio of currently over 300 externally funded research projects across the University

  • Maintain and monitor the core research budget codes

  • Review financial statements on a regular basis to the PVC for Research, Heads of SBU, and Research Department leaders

  • Assist the relevant Heads of SBU / Research Departments and Finance Managers in the preparation of annual financial plans and quarterly forecasts for their areas, including income, staff expenditure and non-staff expenditure budgets

  • Provide expert financial advice as the central point of contact on various external research funding streams to the PVC Research, Dean, Research leaders, academic staff and other Finance Managers within the research Groups and the wider University

  • Produce detailed Management accounts for national and international Academic, Commercial and Government Research Projects ensuring compliance with individual contracts

  • Complete month-end and year-end management accounting adjustments including the preparation of income in advance and amounts recoverable on contracts for projects as well as reconciliation of balance sheet and project positions

Experience required:

  • Broad-based relevant post-qualification accounting experience in a financial management role

  • Experience of the use of accounting packages within large / complex organisations

  • Staff management experience

  • Experience in Higher education research post award support or similar environment

  • Experience of dealing with detailed contractual requirements

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Strong understanding of budgetary control processes and the principles of devolved budget management

  • Excellent IT skills with a proven record of development in the provision of management information

  • Good technical skills and a thorough understanding of accounting procedures

Working hours

  • 37 hours per week

  • Monday - Friday
