Job description
We are currently working in partnership with a Housing Association based in the West Midlands, who are recruiting for a Rents Officer on a temporary contract until the end of March. The position is due to start immediately. The hourly rate of pay is negotiable up to £24.00 via an Umbrella Company.
The ideal candidate will have a Basic DBS dated within the last 3 years, access to their own vehicle, and have proven experience of Rents Officer duties.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
Checking arrears schedules weekly, taking action as required in accordance with the Association’s policies with the objectives of minimising debt, maximising rental income and sustaining tenancies
Minimising debt and maximising income collection by prioritising tasks accordingly
Enforcing and initiating legal action by serving notices, preparing court papers and representing the organisation at Court Cases for rent possession claims
Managing and resolving credit and former debt accounts, taking action as appropriate
Liaising with debt collection (recovery agents) to ensure income collection is maximised
Challenging/querying Housing Benefit overpayments with tenants/leaseholders and Housing Benefit/DWP
Proactively negotiate/re-negotiate payment plans with tenants/leaseholders in arrears
Assisting residents with obtaining Universal Credit (UC), monitoring and taking action
Identifying fraudulent Housing Benefit Claims and taking the appropriate action
Experience required:
Previous experience working within the Social Housing sector
Experience working to meet targets and deadlines
Knowledge of up-to-date housing legislation
Skills, knowledge and expertise required:
Ability to deliver a customer focused service
Strong communication and negotiation experience and skills
Able to work with key stakeholders and partners

35 hours per week
Monday – Friday, 9am - 5pm
