Job description
Our client, based in Cumbria, is currently recruiting for an Environmental Protection Technical Assistant on a 3-month temporary contract.
The position is due to start on Monday 29th January 2024 on a full-time basis. The hourly rate is negotiable based on experience for this position, up to £40 per hour via umbrella.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in Environmental Health / Environmental Protection and good IT and customer service skills. All candidates must have experience in using Civica IT system and also have access to their own vehicle.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
Providing efficient and effective support to officers in the investigation and administration of pollution control / public health complaints
Dealing with the majority of cases which relate to noise but also odour, smoke, light, filthy premises, accumulations, etc, supporting enforcement action where required to resolve them
Responding to queries regarding a range of public health subjects, including but not limited to seagull feeding, waste collection, pest control, burning waste, radon gas, asbestos
Providing advice as required on these and other general issues
Assisting and supporting the Environmental Protection & Public Health Team Leader in the provision of a service
Ensuring the service meets statutory requirements, the policies of the Council and the needs of the community
Liaising as required with technical and administrative support staff and maintain appropriate records, statistical returns and management information
Supporting officers in collating and distributing information relating to bathing waters in the Borough and in carrying out air pollution and noise monitoring as required

Environmental Protection / Environmental Health
Working with customers within local councils and housing
Dealing with nuisance complaints
Working on Civica IT system

Arranging works
Negotiations

37 hours per week
Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm
