Job description

We are currently working in partnership with a Local Authority based in the Midlands, who are recruiting for a DFG Technical Officer (Part-Time) on a temporary six-month contract. The position is due to start in January 2024, with the hourly rate of pay is £35 per hour via an umbrella company.

The successful candidate must have detailed knowledge of the Building Regulations, hold a HND or degree in construction and hold a full UK Driving License.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Surveying and assessing the homes of customers to determine suitability for adaption, taking into account recommendations by occupational therapists and other health professionals

  • Designing disabled adaptations, including producing options appraisals for complex adaptations

  • Preparing detail designs, schedules of works, specifications and tender documents for adaption works

  • Being responsible for meeting the requirements of the role of designer under the CDM Regulations

  • Holding responsibility for ensuring the construction, adaptions and demolition schemes complying with all relevant regulations

  • Pricing works and evaluating tender documents and quotations to ensure good value for money

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • A good understanding of the principles of customer care

  • A good understanding of disabled adaptations and the requirements of disabled people in relation to access to and around the home

  • An understanding of hazards to health arising from poor housing conditions

  • A good understanding of the legislation underpinning the delivery of disabled adaptations and home improvements

  • An excellent understanding of the support services provided to disabled and older people by other statutory bodies and voluntary agencies

  • A good understanding of the welfare benefits system

  • An excellent understanding of the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996

  • A good understanding of the difference between general fund and housing revenue account budgets

  • The ability to analyse information relating to performance, draw conclusions based on the evidence and to challenge effectively in order to bring about improvements

  • Full driving licence – this post attracts an Essential Car User Allowance

Working hours:

  • 20 - 24 hours per week

  • Monday to Friday
