Job description

We are delighted to be representing a London-based Local Authority, who are looking to appoint an Employment Solicitor on an initial 3-month temporary contract, with the option to go permanent thereafter.

This position is due to start immediately on a full-time basis, with an office presence needed twice a month and the hourly rate is negotiable based on experience.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Advising on and dealing with all legal matters relating to Employment Law to the Council
  • Conducting straightforward and complex proceedings including evaluation of evidence, strategic case management advice, case preparation and advocacy, where appropriate
  • Advising clients on the risks of legal challenges and advising them how to mitigate risk
  • Representing the Council in meetings with other authorities, government departments and other bodies
  • Attending committees, panels, working parties and other meetings with councillors and cabinet members
  • Instructing counsel/external solicitors as necessary, arranging case conferences and attending to counsel at hearings as required
  • Drafting and assisting on complex decision reports and conducting complex legal work with minimal supervision
  • Reviewing cabinet and other reports, drafting the recommendations and writing the legal implications, including advising on options available and managing any risk

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or legal executive (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong up-to-date knowledge across a broad range of employment and related law

Working hours:

  • 35 hours per week
  • Can show flexible hours
