Job description

We are currently working in partnership with Local Authority based in Hertfordshire, who are recruiting for a M&E Manager on a temporary three-month contract. The position is due to start immediately. The daily rate of pay is negotiable up to £350 via an Umbrella company.

The ideal candidate will have previous Electrical contracts experience and programme management.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Manage the delivery of the servicing and repairs programmes for all areas of electrical safety, acting as budget manager for the associated contracts with a value of approximately £1m

  • Ensure that the council’s obligations under the Electrical Regulations and other associated health and safety regulations are adhered to and enforced

  • Manage the servicing and inspection programmes for areas including, but not limited to, electrical safety, lifts and lifting equipment and door entry, ensuring the council remains compliant with its statutory and non-statutory obligations

  • Carry out the full range of contract administration duties in relation to works procured under JCT, TPC and other forms of contract

  • Identify and monitor potential risks within programmes and take appropriate preventative steps to reduce risks to the council, including preparing for and taking court action under the environmental protection act legislation, including attendance at court

  • Produce time and cost estimates for work not specifically described within the contract when required and will be used in negotiations with the service provider / contractor

  • Arranging and chairing meetings and ensuring that all stakeholders are aware of the project’s progress

Experience required:

  • Proven experience of managing electrical servicing and repairs contracts

  • Experience of developing services and improving customer satisfaction

  • Proven experience of team management where targets are exceeded and effective, efficient services delivered

  • Proven experience of managing compliance in a local government environment

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • An in-depth understanding of electrical safety legislation and best practice in the context of a larger social housing provider

  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation

  • Building legislation including Planning, Building regulations, CDM, Health & Safety Legislation and Party Wall Act

  • Professional qualification e.g., AESM level 4 or equivalent, or can demonstrate equivalent relevant experience
