Job description

We are currently working in partnership with a Local Authority based in Staffordshire, who are recruiting for a Housing Solutions Officer on a temporary three-month contract.

The position is due to start immediately and is full time, 37 hours per week. The hourly rate of pay is negotiable up to £24.50 via an Umbrella company.

The ideal candidate will have experience working on the front line and triaging clients, have a basic DBS certificate, or be happy to have one carried out, drive and have access to their own vehicle.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for taking homeless applications when necessary and making s.184 decisions over the phone

  • Carrying out triage work, inclusive of managing homeless on the day approaches, requested documentation and making initial enquiries

  • Negotiating with Landlords, Estate Agents and Private Sector organisations

  • Prevent Homelessness wherever possible using pro-active resources available including online resources

  • Carrying out section 184 decisions, working in line with the relevant Acts and HRA legislation

  • Responsible for providing housing advice on a daily basis and dealing with other issues at the first instance

  • Identify applicants who are threatened with homelessness and refer onto relevant services

  • Responsible for preventing evictions as well as answering any queries with regards to homeless applications

  • Allocating clients into temporary accommodation based on assessments

Experience required:

  • Conducting 184 decisions and carrying out intense assessments

  • Triaging clients in the early stages of homelessness and assessing their needs

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Up to date knowledge of HRA legislation and all relevent housing acts

  • Negotiating with landlords and other relevant partners to prevent evictions

Working hours:

  • 37 hours per week

  • Monday – Friday, 8:45am – 5:15pm
