Job description

We are currently working in partnership with a Council based in Worcestershire, who are recruiting for a Homeless & Housing Solutions Officer on a temporary three-month contract with the potential for extension.

This will be a full-time position, offering hybrid working (2-3 days per week expected to work on site). It is 37.00 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The hourly rate for this role is negotiable up to £27.00 per hour via an Umbrella Company.

The ideal candidate will have experience working within a similar role and will ideally have previous experience using the Jigsaw system.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Reaching robust S184 decisions and with an in depth understanding of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended)

  • Providing a professional and compliant specialist customer facing Homelessness and Housing Solutions service firmly focussed on the prevention and relief of homelessness through a range of housing options

  • Supporting the strategic and operational managers in delivering the vision, strategies and initiatives for the Homelessness and Housing Solutions Team

  • Professionally and effectively managing a designated caseload by thoroughly assessing, researching, analysing, and applying the most up to date case law to homeless applications across all tenures

  • Ensuring that any reports are written with a high degree of diligence, rationality, and quality, so that legal decisions are “right first time”

  • Ensuring that those applicants for whom the Council has a statutory duty to provide temporary accommodation are placed into accommodation that best meets their needs

  • Through casework, teamwork and partnership working, ensuring that any housing solutions or package of solutions are wholly sustainable

Experience required:

  • Experience required in carrying out section 184 decisions

  • In depth knowledge of current homelessness legislation

  • Experience of casework and writing complex reports

  • Experience of serviced improvement and being involved in projects

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Working knowledge of using the Jigsaw system

Working hours:

  • 37.5 hours per week

  • Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm
