Job description

We are currently working in partnership with a prestigious University based in Surrey, who is currently recruiting for a permanent Head of Income, based in their Student Fees department.

The position is due to start immediately on a full-time basis, and the successful candidate must be on site every day. The salary on offer ranges from £56,555 up to £69,024 depending upon experience.

The ideal post holder will be an experienced change manager and will strive to achieve sector best practice in income processing and collection.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Reporting to the Head of Financial Control for driving value and reducing inefficiencies in income processing and collection across the university

  • Managing and supervising the Student Fees team as well as a dotted line management role overseeing non-student credit control and sales ledger processes

  • Defining, leading, managing and implementing improvements to the structure, systems and processes within student billings, income collection and credit control

  • Maintaining a high-quality income processing and debt collection service on behalf of the College, with a particular focus on student-related income (over £125m per annum)

  • Working creatively and productively with IT teams to define the required improvements for IT-enabled business change, e.g. through developing an enhanced student records system and improving its interface both with students and with the finance system

  • Being responsible for timely, efficient and effective debt collection and will manage and oversee online student payment services in liaison with IT

  • Calculating bad debt provision for student debt both for forecasts during the year and at financial year end

  • Overseeing the processing/payment of bursaries and scholarships and recommend process improvements to drive efficiency

  • Producing accurate, timely and valuable debt reporting and analysis for College Council Finance Committee three times per year

  • Updating and improving all income and debt related policy, in particular the Student Fees regulations, covering national and international student income

Experience and skills required:

  • Prior experience in project and change management

  • At least five years’ team leadership and management experience in a financial setting, or a debt collection/credit control setting

  • Demonstrable experience of leading organisational change

  • Knowledge of key financial risks and controls regarding income and debt collection processes

  • Proven experience in using and managing financial and/or payment systems

Working hours:

  • 35 hours per week

  • Monday - Friday 9am-5pm
