Job description

Our client, based in Hertfordshire, is currently recruiting for a Democratic Services Assistant on an initial 2-month interim contract with the potential to go permanent.

The position is due to start immediately. The hourly rate is negotiable based on experience for this position.

To be considered for this role, candidates will need to have extensive minute taking experience and ideally will come from a Local Government background. Candidates will also need to attend evening meetings twice a week on average.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Managing and supporting meetings, producing agendas on time and producing accurate minutes.
  • Demonstrating sound political awareness, ensuring confidentiality where appropriate and required by legislation.
  • Ensuring published reports conform to council standard, remaining transparent to democracy and, where appropriate, that report authors have taken account of the accessibility criteria.
  • Organising, hosting and administering meetings, both physical and virtual, in order that they can always proceed in a satisfactory, timely and lawful way.
  • Dealing with enquiries from other service areas, members of the public and elected Members by email, letter, telephone and through face to face contact on the Council’s democratic decision-making process.
  • Experience required:

    • Experience required in administrative work with a focus on producing accurate minutes
    • Experience working in a Local Government Setting

    Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

    • Sound Political Awareness
    • Understanding of Confidentiality
    • Working knowledge of democratic decision-making process
