Job description

We are currently working in partnership with a Local Authority who are recruiting for a Contracts & Procurement Lawyer on a six month initial fully remote working locum contract.

The position is full time at 37 hours per week and is offering a negotiable hourly rate dependent on experience.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Working on a mixed caseload of Local Government Contracts, with up to 25 files with only 3-4 being live at one time

  • Providing sound legal advice and guidance in relation to procurement and contract matters

  • Carrying out, with a minimum of supervision, a wide range of legal work as required, including the drafting of any necessary legal documents

  • Advising on and dealing with all legal matters relating to contract and public procurement law, related governance and other general legal matters affecting the Council

  • Counselling on and dealing with all legal matters relating to subsidy control

  • Tailoring the presentation and format of legal advice to suit the level of understanding of the instructing Council Officer

  • Participating in project teams to provide governance and procurement input

  • Negotiating drafting of contracts and other arrangements for shared or integrated services and delivering major projects

  • Keeping clients informed of new legislation and case law relevant to their operations, and ensuring that they maintain a sound application of legal requirements

  • Enabling decisions to be taken and implemented in accordance with the law and the Council’s Constitution

Experience required:

  • Experience working in Local Authorities in a contracts/procurement focused role

Skills/knowledge/qualifications required:

  • JCT experience desirable but not essential as construction contracts handled by external firm

  • 37 hours per week but open to part time hours also

  • Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm (flexible working hours)
