Housing Options Officer

Our client, based in Essex, is currently recruiting for a Housing Options Officer on a temporary contract for three months.

The position is due to start immediately on a full time basis. The hourly rate is set at £26.00 via an Umbrella Ltd per hour and is non-negotiable for this position.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years’ experience in this sector.

Duties will include (but not limited to):

• Responsible for dealing with a caseload of homeless clients, providing expert advice on available housing options for homeless and potentially homeless persons under the Homelessness Act 1996, Part VII, Homeless Reduction Act 2017, Prevention from Eviction Act 1977 and Homelessness Act 2002
• Working as part of the triage team, making initial assessments of the status of a service users application
• Conducting investigations in relation to homeless applications and carry out decision 184s regarding eligibility and suitability for temporary / emergency accommodation
• Mediating between families and dealing with HRA
• Liaising and negotiating with private sector landlords and mediate between family disputes to prevent homelessness where possible
• Working closely with private landlords to obtain new properties and assessing the priority need of cases
• Interviewing clients who are either homeless or at threat of becoming homeless, both in the office, in public or in their own homes
• Arranging and securing suitable accommodation for homeless people in often very challenging circumstances

Experience required:

• Dealt with a caseload of homeless clients
• HRA
• Carried out s184 decisions
• Minimum two years’ experience within the sector

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

• Homeless legislation
• Negotiated with private landlords to obtain new properties
