Job description

We are proud to be partnering with an educational institution to support with their search for a new permanent Head of Human Resources to develop and implement new HR policies and procedures which will incorporate changes to employment laws.

The educational institution was set up in 1950 and had the goal to inspire and teach the younger generations to become independent thinkers as well as successful working professionals. The institution’s mission is to achieve a social and cultural impact by delivering world class training and teaching to their pupils which they hope will empower them to make a change.

As Head of Human Resources, you will represent the HR Department consistently and with professionalism across the institution and work closely with all senior stakeholders. Providing strategic leadership across the HR team to ensure a strong, sustainable future for organisation is key along with providing daily operational support to the HR function.

You will need to have a strategic and operational mind-set in order to assist with the daily running of the institute whilst also providing long term support in order to achieve their strategic goals.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing professional advice and guidance to managers to enable them to manage their teams, while following HR policies and procedures effectively
  • Overseeing the review and updating of existing employment policies and procedures in line with employment law and legislation changes
  • Leading on the organisations people and organisations development strategy, ensuring its alignment with the organisations values and business plan
  • Maintaining the employee handbook in line with changes to good practice and employment law
  • Providing advice and guidance on employee relations matters including attending grievance, disciplinary or appeal hearings
  • Achieving partnerships working with the recognised Trades Unions Representatives at both a formal and informal level to enable conducive business management
  • Supporting the organisations pay negotiations, either via a sector wide process or via a specific organisational process
  • Overseeing as appropriate matters concerning contractual terms and conditions related to recruitment and selection, organisational change, restructuring, change management and monitoring and reporting
  • Managing the integrity of the organisations job grading system, ensuring that pay is comparable across the organisation
  • Supporting line managers in the production of job descriptions and person specifications and answering all queries surrounding them

Experience required:

  • CIPD qualified
  • Ability to lead a HR function

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Updated knowledge of employment laws
  • Broad experience of dealing with employee relation cases
  • Working within a unionised environment
  • Delivering long term strategic plans that support both employee and business needs
