Job description
We are currently partnering with a leading construction company, who are recruiting for a Head of Finance to join their growing team on a permanent basis.
This is a full-time position with a salary bank of £50,000 - £65,000 (subject to experience) and the start date is subject to notice. This role will require commuting to their office in Prescott five days per week.
The ideal candidate will be fully qualified and looking for a position in which they can modernise and strengthen the company’s finance function, essentially acting as the number one in finance.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
Preparing monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flows, and high-quality reporting of contract performance to the Board
Performing ad hoc financial analysis for senior stakeholders and the Board to support commercial decision-making
Managing day-to-day cash flow and working capital cycle, particularly focussing on conversion of accrued income into billings and cash and management of credit control processes
Maintaining a weekly 13-week rolling cash forecast
Managing reporting of VAT and payroll returns
Leading the annual budgeting process and periodic re-forecast as the financial year progresses, working closely with the CEO
Maintaining and strengthening the financial control environment, including month-end close processes, reconciliations and internal controls particularly around recognition of accrued and deferred income in a long-term contract accounting environment
Overseeing the year-end statutory accounts process, including liaison with the company’s accountants and tax advisers
Driving automation and continual process improvement across finance systems, reducing manual effort and improving data accuracy
Managing and developing a small finance team
Experience required:
Experience of working with Sage 50
Qualified/actively studying ACCA/CIMA or open to beginning these studies
Skills, knowledge and expertise required:
Strong understanding of the complexities of accounting for accrued and deferred revenue
Ability to implement robust processes to accurately report net WIP at month end
Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUPs & pivot tables)
Ability to use tools such as AI to implement accounting automation, improve systems and create financial dashboards
Working hours:
37 hours per week
Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm
