Job description

We are currently working with an Academic body based in South East London, who are looking to bring in a Finance Officer on an initial three month contract with the potential for extension.

The role is 35 hours per week across three days and requires the successful candidate to be onsite every day during term time, however flexibility will be offered during non-term time.

Please note that the hourly rate for this role will be either: £17.93 PAYE Inclusive of holiday or £21.03 via an umbrella company.

Our client is looking for candidates with at least one year’s solid experience working as a Finance Officer and ideally will have PS Financials system experience.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for maintaining the accounts, budgets and funds using PS Financials

  • Reviewing all funding, and any other external income and raise any queries direct with the relevant body and highlight any discrepancies to the Finance Manager

  • Dealing with all matters relating to Accounts Receivable including raising invoices and collecting monies for income owed including lettings, services, lunches etc

  • Overseeing all matters relating to accounts payable, including processing, paying and reconciling invoices, account and delivery queries and departmental charging

  • Reviewing the aged creditors for UAE/MAT/UTC to ensure they are accurate and correct and that all purchase invoices have been raised and monies paid on a timely basis. This includes reflecting direct debits from suppliers, inputting correcting journals into PSF, and recovering overpaid accounts from suppliers

  • Supporting the Finance Manager in ensuring PSF Procurement process is followed correctly by all users; raising purchase order, goods received note, matching of invoice etc.

  • Adhering to cash handling procedures and assist with the maintenance of petty cash administration

  • Preparing the monthly payroll, liaising with the payroll provider to ensure final reports are ready for review

  • Assisting the Finance Manager on a monthly basis in identifying and raising accruals (for expense items), accrued income (for income owed), prepayments (for expenses items paid in advance), and for deferred income (deferring income)

  • Completing the monthly reconciliation of all control accounts including the bank accounts

Experience required:

  • Minimum one years’ experience working in a Finance based role

  • Processing purchase invoices

  • Raising sales invoices

  • Bank reconciliations

  • Assisting with Month end preparation

  • Experience using PS Financials

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Able to work autonomously and within a team

  • Able to maintain positive relationships with staff and parents

  • Desirable experience of Excel at an intermediate level

  • Good IT skills and able to learn new systems efficiently

  • Strong communication skills

  • Excellent eye for detail
