Job description

We are currently working in partnership with a prestigious housing association based in Middlesex, who is currently recruiting for a Building Surveyor on a 3-6 months temporary contract. The position is due to start immediately on a full-time basis, with the rate being negotiable upon experience.

The ideal candidate will have proven track record in building & property surveying as well as being in possession of a building construction qualification. A full UK drivers license and access to own vehicle is required.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Carrying out pre inspections of properties (including voids and mutual exchanges), diagnosing repairs, scheduling up works through an agreed schedule of rates

  • Preparing a specification of works and obtaining quotations

  • Carry out post inspection of works to ensure they meet the required quality standards

  • Liaising with Contractors and Customers to arrange remedial works

  • Feeding into service reviews, specifications changes, safety issues, new development and planned maintenance standards and programme requirements to ensure the housing stock meets required standards and safety requirements

  • Managing the execution and compliance of statutory and other controls, such as Planning and Building Regulations

  • Carrying out stock condition surveys and accurately record condition and age of components

Experience required:

  • Well versed in managing and coordinating contractors and managing works to high standards and on time

  • Experience of working in social housing

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Communicating with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders

  • Producing accurate figure-work and data processing and reporting skills

  • Assuming responsibility for budget monitoring and have and awareness of value for money

  • Proficiently using IT systems and handheld technology to write reports and draw specifications

  • Assessing appropriate courses of action in ensuring customer and property safety

  • Communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, with technical and non-technical people

  • Demonstrating an understanding of good practice with regards to the procurement of building/maintenance works

  • Advising and providing up to date knowledge of current building regulations and building standards.

  • Being fully conversant with Health & Safety (including CDM), Building Safety Compliance legislation and Building Regulations and good practice

Working hours:

  • 36 hours per week

  • Monday - Friday 9am-5pm
