Birmingham Watering Holes
When hoping to secure a career with James Andrews you’ve also got to ensure you’re doing lots of research. No, we’re not talking about the company (although this is definitely recommended). We are actually talking about the local watering holes.
As you may be aware, recruitment is a hard slog and you want to make sure that you don’t have too far to walk after a busy week. Don’t worry, through extensive ‘research’ conducted by our current crop of consultants, we’ve made a list of some of our favourite bars in the area where we toast a successful week/drown our sorrows (delete as appropriate).
Whether it be nice food, craft beers or fancy cocktails, we’ve got you covered.
The Lord Clifden – Dynamic venue known for its urban street art, six (count them, six!) HD screens for sports fans and hearty all-day menu. Definitely a summer time favourite, especially on the weekends where they have BBQ cook outs in arguably Birmingham’s best beer garden.
The Button Factory – Renovated Victorian factory now housing a contemporary venue that is always at the top of the list when deciding where to start our Month End. The terrace, with heat lamps and comfy seating provides a great view of the busy Jewellery Quarter below.
The Rose Villa Tavern – Refurbished boozer with an ornate interior boasting ceramic tiles, wooden floors and stained glass. Boasting a wide range of spirits and extensive knowledge of cocktails by the bar staff, they’ve even mastered an American style diner themed menu. They’re even dog friendly!
The Vaults – A suave yet welcoming bar with a perfect atmosphere for a late evening sip on premier champagnes, bottled beers or carefully crafted cocktails. Definitely the place to celebrate a good week in the office. With private booth hire and table service available, this is definitely the venue to be living it up on Instagram.
The Church – A traditional British pub with a twist. Serving up all things Soul and Creole, The Church is decked out with an eclectic style and its own roof terrace and bar to relax into the evening with some amazing New Orleans themed food. And the bacon gravy is just ridiculous.
Hen & Chickens – Here at James Andrews you are literally five minutes’ walk from heaven, although you’ll be so excited to get here you can do it in two. This revamped desi pub doesn’t give off the best vibe from the outside but if the idiom ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ was created for one thing, it would be Hen & Chickens. Serving up amazing food and great drink offers you’ll be begging them to do deliveries as well (they don’t, we’ve begged asked).
The Wolf – If craft beers are your tipple The Wolf has got you covered. Located five minutes’ walk from the office this family run bar is known for its fluctuating craft beer menu and even brews its own gin. Which I’m told is amazing!
St Pauls House – Located across the road on the square it’s only a two minute walk from the office if you’re dragging your heels. This relatively new bar offers a wide variety of cocktails and a unique twist on your pub foods classics
The Rectory – A favourite of guys from the office. The bar Not just for Happy hour on a Friday but for the location. Located two floors down, this is the first port of call when leaving the office as it is literally three seconds from the front door.
The Queens Arms – This cheeky number on the corner of Newhall Street is usually the bar that catches people out on the way home. Forever the bar that’s entered with the phrase “we’ll just have one” the food and the board games will keep you entertained long enough you’ll forget the time. As well as the board games they even host one of the best pub quizzes in the area. Just make sure you get there early to ensure you get a seat!
Actress and Bishop – One for the later crowd. Usually frequented by the guys and girls that aren’t keen to go home too early. Open till ‘late’ this place doesn’t quite fit in with the rest of Jewellery Quarter due to its rough round the edges vibe. Blasting out indie anthems until the wee hours, this bar/club always has you singing along.
